Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a beautiful Rookwood Art Pottery vellum vase decorated by Frederick Daniel Rothenbusch and dated 1909.

This nice vase has a soft teal blue/green color at the top shading to soft cream in the center to pale turquoise/seafoam blue on lower body. The vase is decorated with a white wild rose design with teal foliage in a design that encircles the top and is finished with a Vellum glaze. Measures 9 1/2" high with a top diameter of 3 1/4" and a base diameter of 3 5/8.

This nice vase is in excellent Estate condition and with no noted flaws other than faint visible crazing and one spot of darker crazing at the side of the hanging flower bud on the back of the vase (see photos). The Rookwood Pottery Company was founded by Maria Longworth Nichols in 1880 and won numerous prestigious awards with their early pottery. However, over the years she became less involved with the company and in 1890 the Rookwood Pottery Company was reorganized with William Taylor becoming President. Rookwood is considered the premier name in American Art Pottery and even the more common pieces of the production ware period are collected for their elegant beauty. The Depression was difficult for the Rookwood factory although they continued to operate until 1967 when the factory was finally forced to close.
