Per Wikipedia, McIntosh was born in Vallejo, California, and he grew up in Stockton, California. He studied at the University of Southern California, where he took classes with Glen Lukens during the early 1940s. Later, he attended Claremont Graduate School, which was directed by Millard Sheets. McIntosh studied ceramics under Richard Petterson at Scripps College. He also attended workshops with Shoji Hamada, with Bernard Leach at Mills College, and with Marguerite Wildenhain at Pond Farm. During this period, he and fellow ceramicist Rupert Deese opened a studio together, which they operated together for five decades. During the late 1950s, McIntosh taught at the Los Angeles Country Art Institute (now the Otis College of Art and Design). There, he befriended Peter Voulkos, Paul Soldner, John Mason, and Kenneth Price. He had over forty solo exhibitions throughout his six decade career.
